Read More About Functional Integration®

Functional Integration® is a hands-on form of kinesthetic communication. The teacher communicates to the student a more clear picture of how they organize their body. The teacher hints, suggests or asks open ended questions through their gentle touching and movement. This interaction uncovers how to move in more expanded, comfortable and efficient patterns.

The Functional Integration® lesson generally will relate to a desire, intention, or need of the student. The learning process is carried out without the use of any invasive or forceful procedure (no pain). Through rapport and respect for the student’s abilities, their individual qualities, and personal integrity, the teacher creates an environment in which the student can learn comfortably.

In Functional Integration® the teacher develops a lesson plan for the student, custom-tailored to the unique needs and state of that particular person, at that particular moment. The teacher conveys the experience of comfort and efficient ease of movement while the student learns how to reorganize their body and self-image in new and more effective ways.

In Functional Integration®, the teacher’s intention is instructive, open-minded and communicative.

Functional Integration® is most often performed with the student lying on a table designed specifically for the work. It can also be done with the student in sitting or standing positions. At times, various props are used in an effort to support the person’s body configuration or to facilitate certain movements.
